Teen Summer Reading program kicks off this week at Eagle County libraries

Daily staff report

Weekly program dates and times:

Avon Public Library: Tuesdays, June 4-July 30, from 3 to 5 p.m.

Gypsum Public Library: Mondays, June 10-July 22, from 3:30 to 5 p.m.

Eagle Public Library: Thursdays, June 6-July 25, 3:30 to 5 p.m.

Area teens: are you wondering why you should participate in the Teen Summer Reading Program at your local library? You don’t want to lose your brain power over the summer, right? Reading will help you stay smart so you won’t be behind when you start school in August.

All area teens are encouraged to participate in “Beneath the Surface,” the Eagle Valley Library District’s teen summer reading program. Teens are invited to come to the Avon, Eagle and Gypsum libraries and read for prizes as well as take part in special events throughout the summer.

This year’s weekly programs will include greenhouse gardening, time capsule creation, shark week and more. Beginning today, teens in junior high school and high school can register to attend these free weekly programs. Also teens can sign up to read books, earn prizes and enter to win this year’s grand prize — a Kindle Fire.

Call or stop by your local library for more information. The Avon Public Library can be reached at 970-949-6797, the Eagle Public Library at 970-328-8800, or the Gypsum Public Library at 970-524-5080 or visit the library website at http://www.evld.org.
