Telemark clinics begin Sunday on the slopes
First-time and expert telemark skiers can free their heels as the Vail/Beaver Creek Telemark Workshop Series kicks off in Beaver Creek Sunday. The series features eight workshops with co-ed, women-only and kids’ instruction throughout the winter.
“Telemark skiing has really been catching on locally,” said Pat Hammon, Beaver Creek Nordic Center supervisor. “By providing a positive learning environment for beginner as well as advanced telemark skiers, we see plenty of smiles and growth among our participants.”
Sunday’s workshop in Beaver Creek is open to men and women of all ages and abilities, from experts to “never-evers,” ages 17 and up. Participants concentrate on technique and movement analysis.
The workshop runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and the cost is $65 for participants with lift tickets or passes and $115 for those in need of lift tickets.
Merchant Pass holders can participate in this Sunday’s workshop for just $25. This offer is only valid for Sunday.
Participants should meet at the Beaver Creek Nordic Center at 8:30 a.m. on the morning of the workshop. Participants in Sunday’s workshop can rent equipment at a discounted rate of $27 from top manufactures including boots from Garmont and Scarpa and skis from Black Diamond, K2 and Fischer.
Adults who need to rent equipment for the day are encouraged to arrive between 8 a.m. and 8:15 a.m. to allow time for proper fitting.
The Vail/Beaver Creek Telemark Workshop Series is taught by experienced Beaver Creek Ski School and Vail Ski School instructors, while the kids’ workshops feature lead instruction from “Tele Ned,” a PSIA-accredited kids’ instructor who specializes in teaching children and teens the telemark discipline.
