Telluride Ski Resort plans new summer attractions

TELLURIDE, Colorado ” The Telluride Ski Resort plans to add new attractions to lure visitors after the snow melts.

Chief Executive Officer Dave Riley said Friday ideas include an alpine slide ” a bobsled-like ride on a concrete luge instead of ice; zip lines ” a cable and pulley ride stretching from ski hill to ski hill; and expanded mountain bike trails.

Riley says the resort needs to provide a range of recreation year-round to help the Telluride economy.

A bill introduced by Colorado Democratic Sen. Mark Udall on Monday would make it easier for resorts like Telluride to offer year-round attractions on land they lease from the U.S. Forest Service.

Environmentalist groups worry the bill might lead to disruptive water parks, golf courses and roller coasters.
