EAGLE-VAIL ” Someone stole several items from and splattered red paint on 10 vehicles sometime between Saturday night and Sunday morning in Eagle-Vail, said Sara Cross, spokeswoman of the Eagle County Sheriff’s Office.

Windows were smashed and several items valued at more than $500 dollars were stolen from some of the six vehicles at Mountain Terrace and four at Cornerstone Condominiums, Cross said.

Fire extinguishers were sprayed inside some of the vehicles, Cross said. Some were unlocked, she said.

Detective Doug Winters of the Sheriff’s Office said that people should lock the doors and remove personal items to deter thieves.

If car owners find their vehicles burglarized, they should call police immediately, Winters said. Avoid touching or moving the car to allow police to gather evidence, he said.

Anyone with information can call 970-328-7007 or 1-800-972-TIPS. Crimestoppers will pay up to $1,000 if the information leads to an arrest of a suspect in the case.
