Tenth vets will give talk Wednesday in Vail
VAIL, Colorado – Tenth Mountain Division veterans will be speaking in Vail Wednesday at Colorado Ski & Snowboard Museum and Hall of Fame.Earl Clark and Dick Over will speak about their experience as soldiers on skis in World War II. Clark and Over walk guest through their experience training at Camp Hale and fighting the battle for Riva Ridge in Italy in 1948. The 10th Mountain Division was comprised of the few Americans who knew how to ski at a time when the sport was unheard of, or had garnered a reasonable amount of mountaineering skills. The men trained at nearby Camp Hale (30 miles south of Vail), where they learned to fight on high terrain and in mountain warfare. This division is one of the biggest influences on Colorado skiing history and U.S. ski industry. The men of the 10th Mountain Division went on to start, run and manage over 60 resorts in the United States. Pete Seibert, founder of Vail Mountain, is included in this prestigious list of veterans. The Colorado Ski & Snowboard Museum welcomes to the public today at 5:30 p.m. to hear the tales first-hand from 10th Mountain Veterans. Attendees are asked to donate $5.
