Term limits on water district ballot

Daily Staff Report

VAIL -Should term limits for water board directors at the Eagle River Water and Sanitation District be abolished? That’s one of the questions you’ll be asked May 3 if you live in the eastern half of Eagle County served by the district, and vote in a special election called to determine that. The district provides sewer service from East Vail to the Cordillera and water service in the Vail area.Four of the seven board members will be termed out in 2006 – Kent Rose, Arn Menconi, Rick Sackbauer and Pat Dauphinais – if current term limits are observed. “(With term limits) There’s no continuity in what has become a very technical and relationship-dependent board,” said the board’s attorney, Jim Collins, who also said board members need an understanding of often complex water issues. Board members serve two- and four-year terms depending on their vote totals. A second question on the May 3 ballot addresses adding water and sewer service to some homes in Wolcott. It will be determined by homeowners in that area seeking inclusion. Up to 17 residences could be added to the district, officials said.- Cliff Thompson
