Tests ordered for man in Trinidad beating death
TRINIDAD, Colorado ” A second round of psychiatric evaluations has been ordered for a Trinidad man accused of beating another person to death last year.
Third Judicial District Chief Judge Claude Appel ordered the evaluations to determine whether 20-year-old Eric Blocker is competent to stand trial in the November death of David E. Doyle.
Blocker allegedly beat the 58-year-old Doyle at Doyle’s Trinidad home after Blocker asked to borrow the man’s truck and he refused.
Blocker has been living at the Colorado Mental Health Institute at Pueblo since he was arrested Nov. 12. Court officials say doctors from the state hospital were unable to determine Blocker’s competency level, so Appel ordered the second series of tests.
Another competency hearing is scheduled for May 22.
