TEVA Games kicks of May 31

Daily Staff Report

VAIL “The Teva Mountain Games, the country’s largest adventure sports festival, will return to Vail, May 31-June 4, 2006. The fifth anniversary of the event will celebrate every aspect of the mountain lifestyle with more than twenty different athletic competitions, outdoor film and photography contests, the second annual Everest Awards, an interactive expo and demo area, live music and parties for both athletes and spectators alike.

The Everest Awards is a formal event recognizing some of the year’s best adventure athletes in each of the sports represented at the Mountain Games.

The 2005 winners, chosen by a panel of magazine editors, included Danelle Ballengee and Mike Kloser for adventure racing, Nikki Kelly and Eric Jackson for kayaking, Alison Dunlap and Travis Brown for mountain biking, Steph Davis Potter and Tommy Caldwell for rock climbing, Diane Van Deren and Buzz Burrell for trail running and Gordon Brown and Pascuale Scaturro for expedition of the year.

Last year, the event raised money for the Women’s Wilderness Institute, a non-profit organization with the mission of strengthening the courage, confidence and leadership qualities of girls and women, through the challenge and support of group wilderness and community-based experiences.

The 2006 Mountain Games will include over eighteen adventure sport competitions including:
