Teva Mountain Games bring hip-hop legends
The country’s largest celebration of mountain sport, soul and culture returns once again with the Teva Mountain Games presented by Volkswagen June 1-5.
Professional and amateur outdoor adventure athletes from around the world will converge upon the mountains and rivers of Vail to compete in six sports and ten disciplines including: freestyle and extreme kayaking, kayak and raft paddlecross, bouldering, speed and dyno climbing, mountain bike trials, cross country racing and the Vail Hill Climb trail running championships and the GNC adventure sprint race. In addition to the athletic events, the Teva Mountain Games will include a mountain photography and film competition, an interactive exhibition and demo area, live music and mountain lifestyle parties. The Sounds of the Games will bring hip-hop legends Coolio, Digital Underground, Tone-Loc and Young MC to Ford Amphitheater at 7 p.m. on Friday, June 3, to get everybody on their feet. On Saturday, June 4, the games host the Teva Mountain Ball at Dobson Arena with Women’s Roller Derby.
New to this year’s event is the Family Adventure Zone where kids of all ages can learn how to kayak, climb and ride. Now in its fourth year, the Teva Mountain Games will award $60,000 in a combined cash purse and will be aired nationally to over 150 million homes.
