Thanksgiving Turkey Trot returns to Avon
2k and 5k fun runs being offered at Nottingham Park in Avon
If you’re looking to burn some calories before the big Thanksgiving meal, sign up for the Avon Turkey Trot at Nottingham Park on Thursday morning. The Vail Valley Foundation’s YouthPower365 is partnering up with the town of Avon to host this year’s fun run where it will start and end at Harry A. Nottingham Park.
The event offers a 2-kilometer and 5-kilometer walk or run to provide a fun and healthy way for the community to gather on Thanksgiving morning. Costumes are highly encouraged, so don your best turkey, tutu or other festive duds for a fun day out.
The 2K race will cost $10 per person and the 5K race will cost $20 per person. Children 5 years old and under race for free. Prices will increase by $5 for day of registration. Participants can pre-register at AvonRec.org through the SmartRec software online registration portal. All participants will be required to sign a liability waiver, which can be completed prior to race day.
Registration is scheduled from 8:30 to 9:25 a.m. One of Avon Recreation’s fitness instructors will lead participants through a series of stretching exercises from 9:15 to 9:25 a.m. before the fun runs start at 9:30 a.m. The routes are on relatively flat terrain throughout Avon.
A portion of the proceeds from this event will go to the Vail Valley Foundation’s YouthPower365, whose mission is to inspire, educate and empower youth and families from early childhood to college and career readiness.
