The Beav’ opens four lifts, 320 acres

BEAVER CREEK – Beaver Creek slopes open Wednesday with four chairlifts serving 320 acres on the front side of the mountain.The Centennial Express, Cinch Express, Drink of Water and Haymeadow lifts give skiers and snowboarders the opportunity to ride beginner runs near the summit and the intermediate runs Latigo, Gold Dust and Upper Sheephorn. Double Diamond and two beginner carpet lifts are also open. Nineteen total trails are available.Lifts run from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. until Dec. 15, when lifts open a half-hour earlier.”Early season snowfall and preparation by our mountain operations team will provide packed powder and groomed skiing and riding on Wednesday,” said John Garnsey, chief operating officer for Beaver Creek.Strawberry Park and Bachelor Gulch express lifts are expected to open soon. The resort later this season also plans to unveil Stone Creek, a series of short steep chutes off the east side of Beaver Creek Mountain.The main entrance to Beaver Creek is open, and drivers can park at the Villa Montane and Village Hall parking structures for a price while spaces last. The Bear Lot is open and free.Beaver Creek is hosting its annual cookie competition, where visitors can sample over 5,000 chocolate chip cookies from five contestants and cast their votes for best homemade cookie. The competition takes place from 2 to 2:30 p.m. on Beaver Creek Plaza.Private lessons also are available on opening day.Staff Writer J.K.
