BEAVER CREEK, Colorado –Beaver Creek’s eighth annual chocolate chip cookie contest featured 5,000 freshly baked cookies that were sampled by Opening Day skiers and snowboarders Wednesday.

Beaver Creek Resort Co. officials announced that Shannon Bostrom, of Georgetown, is the winner of the 2011-12 World’s Best Chocolate Chip Cookie Competition, and her recipe will serve as the resort’s official cookie recipe for the 2012 season.

Winning second place was the Golden Eagle cookie recipe from Clementine, Megan, Teaghan, Emily and Sydney Perkins, of Eagle. Third place was the Epic Cookie by the Dirvonas family, of Edwards.

Bostrom, along with four other finalists, baked 1,000 cookies that were quickly gobbled up during the annual contest. It was the perfect way to wrap up Opening Day.

The final top five, chosen from 106 entries, also included Katie Warren, of Edwards, and Anne Laho, of New Castle.

The finalists served their chocolate chip cookies to an eager crowd during the festive celebration in the village. The winner received $1,000; second place was awarded $500; and third place received $250. Fourth- and fifth-place winners will receive two tickets to any performance at the Vilar Performing Arts Center, based on availability.

“We had a fantastic turnout for today’s eighth annual cookie competition,” said Cat Coughran, director of events and sponsorships for Beaver Creek Resort Co. “It’s amazing to see the enthusiasm surrounding this event and it provides a fun, festive afternoon for the mountain’s opening day. We had some incredible recipes to judge this year and we congratulate our five finalists as well as our new Cookie Time recipe winner for the 2011-2012 season, Shannon Bostrom.”

Beaver Creek serves warm chocolate chip cookies to guests daily at 3 p.m. for the resort’s signature program, Cookie Time. Approximately 400,000 cookies are baked and served annually by Cookie Time chefs.
