The Congress plays free show in Minturn Thursday
MINTURN — Minturn has showcased many different genres of musical acts this summer at its free concert series. This Thursday the show will be all rock and roll when The Congress returns to the stage. The band performs at the Little Beach Amphitheater in Minturn at 6 p.m.
The Congress consists of Jonathan Meadows on bass, Scott Lane on guitar and Mark Levy on drums. The band has been busy since they last played the Little Beach Amphitheater with a North American tour and a new release, “The Loft Tapes,” which is available on CD as well as a Vinyl LP. The trio’s new release was recorded the old way, on tape, with vintage microphones and analog tubes. Using the techniques of old Stax or Motown records, The Congress revisited classic soul and R&B tunes such as “Killing Me Softly” by Roberta Flack, “Into the Mystic” by Van Morrison and more.
The concert is rain or shine. Cans of 3.2 percent alcohol beer are allowed but there is no glass allowed in the park.
Mark your calendar. The last show of the concert series is Aug. 29 with 12-year-old singer and guitar prodigy Jaden Carlson and her band. Carlson had the honor this summer as being the youngest person to ever perform professionally at Red Rocks when she played two nights in a row with Michael Franti /Spearhead and the next night with John Popper and Blues Traveler.
