The invitation beckons people to imagine modern jazz themes improvised on ancient tribal drums, an allusion to Haynes Robinson’s rug-making techniques. He’ll be at Avon’s Ruggs Benedict today from 5-7 p.m., giving an educational presentation on his art and craft.

Rugs by Robinson, his company, has established connections with native rug makers in places as varied as China, India, Nepal, Pakistan, Turkey and Iran – what may become the crown jewel with a new line called Sahar.

Blending traditional Persian rug techniques with modern innovations, the Sahar series is striving to redefinecontemporary Gabbeh art. Everything is hand- done, from the gathering of wool and dying it, to spinning and weaving. For more information about the presentation or the rugs, call 845-5390.
