Walking onto the Gashouse’s fenced patio in Edwards is like stumbling upon a lake in the middle of a dessert oasis. The quiet, sun-splashed deck is strewn with tables and lined with blissfully shading trees. The crowd hums with happy conversation, and content summer-tuckered dogs snooze peacefully beneath their owners’ chairs. The clinking of beer bottles occasionally rings across the patio, while Bob Segar and the Marshall Tucker Band set the mood via surround sound stereo.

This is the Gashouse. How many fancy wine lists, complicated menus and funny French words can you really handle in one summer? The Gashouse promises to bring down your blood pressure, satisfy your thirst with a delicious beverage, and fill your belly with excellent, well prepared – but not fancy – fare.

The Scene

Walk inside the restaurant, and you’ll find a TRUE Colorado dining room. Jackalopes, wild game and hunting trophies line the wall next to authentic antique ski gear and photos that tell the story of the old west.

“This place is really popular with the kids,” said owner Andy Guy. “The building and the antiques are truly what set us apart. You can have a great meal in Chicago, in New York… anywhere. But when you are in this building, you know you’re dining in Colorado!”

Though it doesn’t “do” frills, the Gashouse has everything you need. The bar can whip up anything you desire, and boasts a thorough and diverse wine list; the dining room welcomes large groups and even larger families; and the clincher – excellent, friendly and fast service.

Un-fussed-with-Excellence

Don’t let the laid-back atmosphere fool you. The Gashouse serves well-prepared, distinctly flavored, heaping portions of delicious food. And, with “over 100” items on the menu (according to Guy), any way you do it, you’ll get a heaping plate of food that’s sure to satisfy.

Start with the signature crab cake, which is hearty and delicious. The hot artichoke dip was rushed from the oven to our table, making for a hearty, piping hot starter. Peel ‘n eat shrimp and oysters are also house specialties, as are the grilled quail.

Inarguably one of the Gashouse’s claims to fame is their build-your-own-surf-and-turf menu – so go big, or go home. Don’t miss the elk tenderloin, and pair it with a lobster tail. Or try the signature rack of lamb paired with king crab legs. If surf-and-turf isn’t your thing, try a Gashouse burger or the baby back ribs.
