‘The Gingerbread Man’ plays in Breck through Christmas Eve
Vail CO, Colorado
BRECKENRIDGE, Colorado ” Shrink down to the perspective of a mouse (and a gingerbread man, salt and pepper shakers, cuckoo clock and tea bag) by way of an oversized set at the Backstage Theatre’s presentation of “The Gingerbread Man,” showing at the Tenmile Room of the Village at Breckenridge hotel. This holiday kids play is an adaptation written by David Wood.
“It’s so accessible to little kids and funny to adults too. It’s got clever lines and change, change, change in action to keep kids interested,” said Heidi Dickstein, who plays “the evil tea bag.”
The story revolves around Herr von Cuckoo (played by Backstage artistic director and director of this show) Chris Willard. He loses his voice, and fears that he will be thrown away by the “The Big Ones.” Working together with the Gingerbread Man (Robin Wallace), Miss Pepper (Michelle Marzo) and Mr. Salt ( Tim West) and against Sleek the Mouse (Dyarl Alexander), the group tries to get some honey to soothe the cuckoo’s throat.
“It’s even fun to be a villain in a kids play,” said Sleek the Mouse (Alexander). “I get a lot of reaction and interaction with the kids.”
Linda Schindler created the colorful costumes, Caroline Foley recorded the music which accompanies the show and Bob Moore created the set.
“The Gingerbread Man” will play through Dec. 24. Tickets are $5 and no reservations are required.
