The Great American Dine-Out comes to Vail

Daily Staff Report
Vail CO, Colorado

What if you could help put an end to childhood hunger, just by eating out? Larkspur Restaurant in Vail will participate in The Great American Dine-Out during Share Our Strength’s national campaign Sept. 21 through 28. Larkspur will continue the charitable benefit throughout its fall season closing date of Oct. 25. A contribution equal to 2 percent of gross sales will be sent to Share Our Strength.

In 2004, Share Our Strength launched its national strategy to end childhood hunger in America. The organization focuses on long-term solutions that support access to nutritious food and healthy food choices, and bridges the gaps between existing effective programs and families who need them.

Some staggering facts about childhood hunger in America:

– 38 million Americans live below the poverty line of $21,200 for a family of four.

– $407 is the average weekly income of a family living at the poverty line.

– Households with children are nearly twice as likely to use food banks as those without children.

All of us have at one time or another experienced hunger. We’ve all craved a midnight snack, wanted something salty or needed some chocolate. But there’s a big difference between trying to satisfy a brief craving or stomach growl and wondering where your next meal will come from. The reality is that more than 12.6 million children in America ” that’s one in six ” are at risk of hunger. And it’s likely that these children will endure lifelong consequences as a result of having limited access to nutritious foods.

Visit Larkspur Restaurant in the Golden Peak Lodge in Vail for the Great American Dine-Out. Larkspur is currently offering its end of the summer special of 3 courses for $39 and 50 percent off all bottles of wine. For each dinner a contribution of 2 percent of the total check will be donated to the fight of childhood hunger. For more information call 970-754-8050. Larkspur is open Tuesday through Saturday through Oct. 25.
