LIONSHEAD – Alas, all good things must come to an end.Today marks the last day you can experience the Jonny Magambo Band, or any show for that matter, at the Lions Den in Lionshead. Vail Resort will be tearing the old gondola building down as part of the redevelopment project in Lionshead. In the spirit of BB&B, drink the bar dry, end of the year party that has always happened in Lionshead, the Lions Den is throwing its last party ever in this building today. The Jonny Magambo Band, starring Jonny Mogambo on lead guitar and vocals, Andrew Vogt on saxophone, Matt Spencer on bass guitar and Kyle Comerford on drums will be kicking out the funk rock jams from 3-6 p.m. Drink specials abound, Magambo is inviting any local musician who has performed in the building over the last 30 years to come out and join the jam session.

“Today will mark the end of an era and the beginning of a new one. To anyone who has lived here, come say good-bye to a Vail landmark. Come say good-bye to Jonny Magambo apres ski at the Lions Den. Come say good-bye to all our friends at the Lions Den. Come say good-bye to the good times and good music that we have all heard in Lionshead. And come celebrate the end of another ski season,” Magambo said. The gondola building has been home to many clubs and performers. The Kaltenberg Castle, Gravity, Frasier’s or Gondo’s and the Trails End are just some of the businesses that many of us have partied in.

“Most locals will tell you that anyone who works in the ski industry and lives in this town probably has worked in this building. These clubs have been host to a mix of music from Leftover Salmon and the Young Dubliners to Shakedown Street, Don Watson, Sucker, Jammer and Jen, Trippy, The Foley Brothers and All Strung Out,” Magambo said.Magambo has played the apres ski show at there for over eight seasons. The Lions Den opens at 10 a.m. today for all drink specials. For more information, call the club at 477-6970.
