The one who fights for us

Gary Wingo

Ever been at a place where you didn’t know where to turn? All your options are gone and the stress has settled in your gut? Can’t sleep because of growing anxiety and fear? Rough place to be, isn’t it? When you find yourself facing that emptiness, what do you do?Some religious people say, “Just turn to Jesus…” Others opine, “Just pull yourself up by your own bootstraps!” Let’s face it platitudes just don’t work; and even when we have all we want out of life, we still have issues and struggles. In these times, I find myself feeling alone, thinking, “It’s all up to me I’ve got to make things happen. If I don’t, everything will fall apart.” We’ve been taught that the real position of strength is when we can go it alone and don’t need anyone or anything. When did we ever begin to buy that cultural lie? Here’s what I’ve learned: 1st Each time I throw a pity party, I need to stop and take a hard look in a mirror and admit the world doesn’t revolve around me. I also need to recall that life is all about the Lord who loves me and personally designed my life!2nd I need to humble myself before God. I Peter 5:6 says, “Humble yourself under God’s mighty hand, and He will lift you up.” Believe me…I know it’s hard for us to humble ourselves under anyone’s hand. We’ve been taught not to let anyone have rule over us. But when I have the courage to stop and bow before Him, I find a powerful clarity that illuminates my path.3rd Let Jesus Christ lead! He ALWAYS has our best interest in mind! God does not stand over us with a big stick ready to pop us in the head when we sin. He alone designed for us the way to purposeful life that utilizes all our choices. Then, we can follow His lead to a life of significance and integrity.4th TRUST! God really is God, and I am not. I confess I will struggle with wanting my own will until I get to eternity. But when we trust God’s plan and purpose each day, my heart is set free I find new hope for a better life right here on this planet. The bottom line is this: life can be a real battle, but we don’t have to face all life’s circumstances alone! Each day, Jesus Christ is willing to fight for our hearts. It’s up to us to decide to believe because, “The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.” Exodus 14:14. So take a look in the mirror and let go; choose to trust your life to the One who knows you and fights for you. Jesus Christ knows where to turn and He’s ready to lead us down the greatest, most adventuresome path we will ever know. Gary Wingo leads a Bible study Sunday at 10 a.m. in Edwards.Vail, Colorado
