The ultimate rock session
VAIL, Colorado-After a brief stint at the Countrywide American Ski Classic, the Street Beat concert series will once again be staged in the heart of Vail Village at Checkpoint Charlie with legendary rocker Leon Russell at 6 p.m. Wednesday.
During a career that has lasted almost five decades, Russell has played with a variety of artists spanning from Jerry Lee Lewis to the Rolling Stones. Known mostly as a session musician, Russell began his musical career at the age of 14 when he lied about how old he was in order to get a gig at a night club. By the ’70s, Russell was already a seasoned veteran, and after touring with the Rolling Stones, he decided to focus his efforts on a solo career. Russell reached the No. 2 spot on the charts in 1972 with his first hit single “Tight Rope.” As part of the Street Beat free concert series, residents of Eagle and Lake counties may register weekly to win the season’s Grand Prize of a Volvo S40, provided by Volvo Cars of North America.Out of town guests can also cash in, as Volvo Cars of North America, the Vail Valley Foundation and the Town of Vail have teamed up to provide the Volvo Vail Grand Prize Guest Giveaway return vacation.
