The Vilar Center for Arts focuses on education
BEAVER CREEK – The Vilar Center for the Arts will present three educational events in the upcoming weeks as part of their STARS (Support The Arts Reaching Students) program. The STARS program caters to Eagle and Lake County students, offering complimentary performances to nearly 4,000 students each school year.
The 5 Browns, a Juilliard-trained sibling piano quintet, will perform selected pieces for five pianos, as well as trios, duets and solos. They will also present a free student performance and lecture on Wednesday at 4 p.m. for music teachers and their students. The public concert begins at 6:30 p.m. and tickets are $45 for a child and $55 for adults. Reservations are required for the student lecture and space is limited.Royal Shakespeare Company member and author Gareth Armstrong presents his one-man play, “Shylock,” based on his book, “A Case For Shylock: Around the World with Shakespeare’s Jew” on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. (The show was previously scheduled for Friday, January 27.) The play explores the strange, turbulent life of literature’s most famous Jewish character – Shakespeare’s “Merchant of Venice.” A discussion with the author and a booksigning will follow the performance. Tickets are $28 or free for all students with ID.
The Nicholas Andre Dance Theatre, a contemporary dance company based in New York City, presents a free daytime performance for students Feb. 23 at noon. In addition to the student performance, the troupe will also present a master-class for aspiring dancers. The public performance takes place 7:30 p.m. and tickets are $35.Reservations for all educational programs are required and can be made through the Vilar Center Box Office at 845.TIXS (8497).
