VAIL VALLEY, Colorado ” The Third Annual First Descents Ball kicks off Saturday at 5 p.m., at the Ritz-Carlton in Bachelor Gulch. The Vail Valley, Colorado gala is a major fundraiser for First Descents, an Avon-based nonprofit that provides free outdoor adventure camps for young adults with cancer.

The gala’s silent auction will feature items like a Lance Armstrong-signed jersey, vacation packages to Hawaii, Atlanta and New York City to see U.S. Open Tennis Tournament, and much more. Tickets are available online at ” click on “FD Ball” on the upper right side of the page.

Anyone attending the gala will have a chance to bid on the silent auction and enjoy wine, cocktails, hors d’ouvers and food inspired by Spago’s Executive Chef Mark Ferguson.

Last year’s gala raised more than $120,000 for First Descents’ programs.

“It’s a great way to meet the people who make our programs happen and to show them how much their contributions make a difference,” said Brad Ludden, founder of First Descents.

Participate in The Longevity Project

The Longevity Project is an annual campaign to help educate readers about what it takes to live a long, fulfilling life in our valley. This year Kevin shares his story of hope and celebration of life with his presentation Cracked, Not Broken as we explore the critical and relevant topic of mental health.

First Descents hopes to exceed last year’s contribution total, which would make it possible to continue the expansion of the summer programs through at least 2010.
