This contest should hit close to home

Daily Staff Report

EAGLE COUNTY – Overcome by the sheer terror of an ugly kitchen, a bathroom straight out of a 1970s sitcom or a family room your family refuses to visit? Local homeowners are eligible to enter House to Home Magazine’s 24/24 Contest, in which one lucky winner will receive $2,400 to spend in 24 hours at The Home Depot in Avon. The prize can be applied to store credit for all products and services available at The Home Depot. The Eagle Valley Homebuilders Association board of directors will judge the contest based on three themes:– Visual impact – what is the need? Contest entrants are asked to provide photos of the room or space they want to remodel. According to House to Home editor Andy Stonehouse, “This is one instance in which it is advisable to portray your home in its most unattractive, bland and unappealing light. These pictures are central to the 24/24 contest entry, and should really illustrate a need. The worse the better.”– Creative vision – what will the finished remodel look like? Contestants will write in an essay what improvements they plan to make with the $2,400 store credit, and why. — Outcome – how will the remodeling enrich your lifestyle and make your home more comfortable? For example, would an organized and cheerful mudroom, complete with cubbies for 50 pair of shoes, make an overtaxed soccer mom’s day easier? Contest entries must be received by May 27. The Eagle Valley Homebuilders Association will judge and announce a winner June 1 and contest winners have until June 30 to complete the remodel. House to Home Magazine will photograph the proposed remodel before, during and after the construction and remodeling process, and will interview the homeowners. The resulting feature story will be published in the August issue of House to Home. Entry forms and complete rules for the 24/24 Contest are available online at http://www.housetohomemag.com, or at The Home Depot store in Avon, CO.Vail Colorado
