Three officers injured in scuffle with armed suspectDENVER – Three police officers were injured when a gun went off during a scuffle with a person armed with a .357 Magnum, according to police and media reports. The armed person was also wounded.A Colorado State Patrol officer was shot in the foot and an Arapahoe County sheriff’s deputy was shot in the arm, Denver police spokesman Sonny Jackson said during a news conference.A third Arapahoe County deputy suffered a broken nose, according to television reports.The three officers were staffing a DUI checkpoint and had stopped a man who had pulled into a convenience store, police said. After conducting a background check, officers found he had a warrant for his arrest and were preparing to take him into custody.That’s when a passenger in the car emerged with a gun, resulting in the scuffle.The checkpoint, set up near a housing project south of Invesco Field at Mile High, was being conducted by the Metro DUI Task Force, a multi jurisdictional group comprised of state troopers and metro law enforcement agencies.
