VAIL ” The Vail Valley Foundation will once again break out the red, white and blue for the entire Vail Valley Wednesday afternoon, as the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra presents the annual Patriotic Concert at 2 p.m. at the Ford Amphitheater. The performance is presented in conjunction with the 2007 Bravo! Vail Valley Music Festival and will be dedicated to the memory of President Gerald R. Ford.

Pavilion seat tickets for the concert are priced at $10 and will go on sale at the amphitheater box office today at 11 a.m., with a limit of four per person. No telephone orders will be taken and no tickets will be sold online or through the Vilar Center box office. Ticket purchasers must be 16 years of age or older.

General admission lawn seating is free, with the gates to the Ford Amphitheater opening at noon in anticipation of the 2 p.m. show.

All proceeds from the Patriotic Concert ticket sales will go to support the Vail Veterans Program, a community-based effort that offers skiing and snowboarding to amputee veterans of the Afghanistan and Iraqi conflicts. The program not only introduces participant veterans to skiing and snowboarding, it also offers a positive transition to living with a new disability.

Under the direction of conductor Jeff Tyzik, the Rochester Philharmonic’s “A Salute to Freedom” performance is slated to include such traditional Independence Day favorites as Sousa’s “Washington Post March”, John Williams’ “The Cowboys Overture” and “Liberty Fanfare” and selections from Rogers and Hammerstein’s “Oklahoma”.

Additional offerings are scheduled to include “America” from Leonard Bernstein’s “West Side Story” and Kenneth Joseph Alford’s “Colonel Bogey March” from Bridge on the River Kwai. Lowden’s popular “Armed Forces Salute” and Irving Berlin’s “God Bless America” will round out the programming.

The Patriotic Concert has been a holiday fixture at the Ford Amphitheater since the Vail Valley Foundation opened the facility in 1987.

“This concert is a great way to continue Vail’s Fourth of July festivities,” Ceil Folz, president of the Vail Valley Foundation, said. “This show is always a true red, white and blue flag waving affair and it is an honor for us to honor President Ford, as well as donate the proceeds to the Vail Veterans Program.”
