Timber sales in Minturn
Vail, CO Colorado
MINTURN, Colorado ” The White River National Forest will soon offer two timber salvage as part of a regional project to cut down trees killed by pine beetles and therefore reduce the risk of wildfires.
The first will be the Yoder Salvage Sale. Dead and dying trees will be cut and removed on 130 acres in the Camp Hale area. The West Grouse Salvage Sale is located west of Minturn and includes 200 acres. The sales are intended to reduce the potential for heavy fuels accumulation by removing beetle-infested trees while they still have commercial value.
The treatment of an additional 64 acres located immediately adjacent to Minturn is currently deferred pending resolution of access through private land. The own of Minturn is ready to allow access on their portion of the road. However, owners of the other sections of the road are concerned about logging trucks damaging he road.
“We’ve been working on the road access with the owners of the King Ranch road since 2005 and have not been able to come to an equitable agreement within our federal policies and guidelines,” said Cary Green, acting district ranger for the Holy Cross/Eagle Ranger District.
