Time for nominations for environmental awards

VAIL – Nominations are now being accepted for the annual Mauri Nottingham Environmental Quality Award. The award honors people or programs that protect the valley’s environment. Presented by the Eagle Valley Alliance for Sustainability and the town of Vail, the award is sponsored this year by Vail Resorts, Inc., Holy Cross Energy, Wells Fargo Bank, First Bank and Safeway.Nominations are due March 1 for each of three categories: individual, business and youth. Nomination forms are available at http://www.vailgov.com or by writing a nomination letter.Nominees need not be located within the town of Vail, as long as the environmental benefit is in the valley.Nominations can be sent to P.O. Box 4923, Vail, CO, 81658; via fax at 569-3891; or e-mailed to mscherr@eaglevalleyalliance.org.Each category winner will receive a plaque, townwide recognition at the April 6 Budweiser Street Beat Concert and one of the following prizes: a Vail/Beaver Creek season pass, a $500 energy credit from Holy Cross Energy, a $100 savings bond from First Bank or Wells Fargo Bank, or a $25 gift certificate from Safeway.The Mauri Nottingham Award was created in 1994 and is named for the founder of the “We Recycle” program. Past winners include the Antlers at Vail for its fireplace conversion program; Will James of Eagle Valley Middle School for his study of Eby Creek water quality; and R.A.
