No bullies

Kindergarten roundup starts this month for children who will be 5 years old by Oct. 1. Parents should know that the age to begin mandatory schooling in Colorado is 7 years old.

If your children seem too young for school, they are. Don’t be bullied into starting them too early. You have time to wait. Holly Roof.

My name is Mike Johnson. I’m just calling in response to the complaints of all the accidents that are happening on the hill.

I, for one, have not been involved in any collisions this year, but I’m also not a ski instructor. I just think that it’s curious that all these collisions are involving ski and snowboard instructors.

It has been my experience that the Vail and Beaver Creek Ski School instructors think they practically own the mountain, because they work on it. I have seen on numerous occasions these instructors guiding their classes down wide catwalks, and making full turns from the left side to the right side.

On a mountain like Vail, where these catwalks can be very long and flat, it is important for a lot of us, especially snowboarders, to maintain a speed that will get us from one side of the mountain to another.

If I’m trying to keep my speed over a long, flat catwalk, and there’s a class of five to eight people, all turning from one side of the catwalk to the other, then there is no way that I can safely get by.

If your answer is to just come to a stop, and follow the class that is making huge catwalk turns, then you need to go back to instructor school. Move the slower traffic to one side of the catwalk, and the same goes for the trails.

These accidents involve two parties, and just because you’re an instructor, that doesn’t automatically make you right.
