VAIL ” Vail’s own jazz ambassador Tony Gulizia and his dynamic duo, Tom Kirk and Allan Finney, will return to perform their blend of blues, standards and straight-ahead jazz at the Vail Farmers’ Market on Sunday from noon to 3:30 p.m. The series is a favorite among market goers, who enjoy taking a break from the action to listen to cool jazz, offered Sunday afternoons through Aug. 24 on Meadow Drive, on the plaza between Sunland Silver and Annie’s in Vail Village.

“It’s a cool way to chill out at the market, to sit down to soak in some great live music,” said Gulizia, who leads the trio. Their jazz playlist has been described as “feel good music,” but the trio prides itself on surprising the audience.

“Sure, we play jazz classics, but we love to mix it up with new directions and interpretations of jazz ” music that pulls you into the groove,” Gulizia said.

Three is a magic number with Gulizia on keyboards and vocals, Kirk on tenor sax and Finney on drums and vocals. The trio has an uncanny connection with each other that’s been developed over years of playing together, and they can knock out just about any jazz request, with no more than a glance and a beat passing between them.

Jazz at the Market is a key component of the summer long Vail Jazz Festival, presented by the Vail Jazz Foundation. In addition to Tony Gulizia Trio, the series offers regional favorites Kathy Morrow Trio, Max Wagner Quartet, Rick Weingarten Trio, Summit Jazz Consort and Mile High Chapter Choir. The Tony Gulizia Trio returns to the market for the final Jazz @ The Market on Aug. 24.
