Tony Gulizia Trio performs for Jazz at the Market in Vail
Vail CO, Colorado
VAIL, Colorado ” Tony Gulizia is a name that is familiar to many. Whether as a faithful presence entertaining at the Grouse Mountain Grill, as the leader of ‘Jazz Goes to School’ for 4th and 5th graders, as band leader or pianist, everyone seems to know Tony.
“Mr. G” as his band students call him, lives and breathes jazz, and his sheer passion for what he does is remarkable.
“Tony just beams when he’s playing,” said Mia Vlaar, executive director of the Vail Jazz Foundation, which presents the Jazz @ The Market series. “Tony works with some of the best artists around, Allan Finney and Tom Kirk, and the result is dynamite.”
The free concert take place from noon to 3:30 p.m. on the plaza outside Sunland Silver on Meadow Drive.
“People love to take a break from the activity of the market,” said Allan Finney, drummer and vocal master of the trio. “The music draws them in, then they sit and listen. It’s a great way to kick back on a beautiful afternoon.”
The Trio is completed by Tom Kirk on tenor sax. With a playlist that features blues, standards and straight-ahead jazz, this trio enjoys creating a genuine connection with any audience. After years of playing together, they can knock out just about any jazz request, with no more than a glance and a beat passing between them.
Sunday’s concert is the final in a series of nine free Jazz at the Market performances, part of the summer long Vail Jazz Festival, presented by the Vail Jazz Foundation. The summer of jazz wraps up with the 14th annual Labor Day Weekend Party from Aug. 29 through Sept. 1 at the Vail Cascade Resort and Spa.
