Top chefs get creative in Beaver Creek

BEAVER CREEK Beaver Creek Resort and Bon Appetit magazine present the Culinary and Wine Focus Jan. 31 through Feb. 2. Thirty local and guest chefs will participate in a ski race, challenge, grand tasting, cooking classes, wine and spirits seminars and more during the 10th annual winter festival.

Laurant Tourondel: Owner-chef, BLT Steak, BLT Fish and BLT Prime (New York).Richard Sandoval: Owner-chef, Modern Mexican Restaurants, Zengo (New York, Denver).Suzanne Tracht: Owner-chef, Trachts (Los Angeles).Ming Tsai: Owner-chef, Blue Ginger (Boston).Sherry Yard:Executive pastry chef, Spago, (Beverly Hills).Florentine flavorThis year, the festival has partnered with Italys Florence consortium to host the Food, Wine & Fashion of Florence. The event will take place Jan. 31, and all proceeds will benefit the local Kimberly Lynn McDonald Foundation.The consortium is a partnership among towns and businesses in the eastern Florence region that promotes the areas food, wine and fashion. Tickets are $30 and include tastings from five world-renowned Florentine chefs, demonstrations by mosaic, fresco and stone artists, samplings of some of Italys wineries, a handbag display from Braccialini and a fashion show from Ermanno Scervino, one of Italys top fashion houses. Beaver Creek and the province of Florence share a mutual interest in food, wine, and fashion and have therefore partnered to showcase Florentine chefs, wineries, artisans and fashion, said Tony ORourke, executive director of the Beaver Creek Resort Co.
