EAGLE — With the ski season over and many of winter’s nomads seeking their next adventure, the valley settles into the quiet of the offseason. The Back Bowl also sees it as the perfect time to reward those that call the valley home with the gift of one more live comedy show, offering up a special spring edition of Comedy Night at the Bowlmor on Saturday at 8 p.m. with comedian Todd Johnson.

It’s a long way from the netherlands of Idaho to the city lights of Denver, but Johnson seems to have nimbly navigated his way, over a relatively short time, to become one of Denver’s top comics. This marks his return, after a two-year absence, as the headliner for the popular live comedy series.

“We’re pretty excited to have Todd back,” said The Back Bowl owner Joe Gonzalez. “This was, perhaps, our best winter for comedy since we first started the series eight years ago. We’ve been trying to get Todd back since his last show two years ago. So, we’re pretty excited we could get him again. That was actually one of the motivating factors for adding this spring show.”

With his first stage appearance over a decade ago as a dare from some friends, Johnson was immediately intoxicated by the energy of the lights and the attention that came with it. Even better was the fact that he was a natural at the art of stand-up from the beginning.

But, the road from Idaho to larger markets was one fraught with challenges as he needed to hold his own against some of the best talent in the country — all looking to take it to the next level. Still, it wasn’t long before Johnson was receiving invitations to participate or compete in some of the top comedy showcases and competitions in the country. In recent years, Johnson has appeared at the prestigious Aspen Comedy Festival, Atlanta’s popular Laughing Skull Festival and he was a finalist at the iconic Seattle International Comedy Competition.
