A tow truck driver was injured on Sunday night on Interstate 70 near Wolcott while assisting a motorist when another driver struck a Colorado State Patrol vehicle responding to the scene, pinning the tow truck driver between his vehicle and the patrol car.
The tow truck driver had pulled over to assist a motorist who’d slid off the road, according to a Colorado State Patrol news release. The tow truck driver’s truck was then struck by a Ford F-250 driven by a 28-year-old New Castle woman.
The Colorado State Patrol trooper who responded to the scene of the crash then had his vehicle hit by a Jeep. The initial crash happened just after 8 p.m. in the westbound lanes of the interstate at mile marker 158.
The tow truck driver was pinned between the tow truck bed and the patrol vehicle. The trooper was able to move before being struck.
The tow truck driver was transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The Colorado State Patrol is investigating the incident and has yet to return numerous calls from the Vail Daily.
