Town Talk

Father Brooks Keith of Episcopal Church of the Transfiguration, Interim Pastor Mark Huggenvick from Mt. of the Holy Cross

Howdy and welcome to Town Talk, where the local farmers’ markets are making us broke.

We wandered down to the market in Edwards last Sunday with just a simple goal: Find a couple of Colorado-grown peaches. We had a hankering for peaches ” “we” meaning this writer, her husband and her 6-month-old daughter. OK, the baby doesn’t know she has a hankering for peaches yet, but she’ll soon learn.

Anyway, who knew how easy it would be to blow $60 at the market? Don’t get us wrong, we got some great deals. Not only did we load up on peaches, we bought a bunch of arugula, a ridiculously large eggplant, a zucchini, a pile of tomatoes, a white eggplant (which looks too pretty to eat), a bag of organic coffee, a gander of organically raised geese, some hamsters, one unicorn, a box of recycled cans and a wreath. OK, we’re just kidding about the last one.

Who knows what the offerings will be at next weekend’s market?
