Every Wednesday, dinner is served at Eagle River Presbyterian Church to anyone who wants or needs a hot meal, free of charge. On Aug. 14, Vail Valley Cares awarded grant checks to local nonprofit groups, and the dinner program, called Loaves and Fishes Cafe, received some of those funds. We want to thank Vail Valley Cares for supporting this program. We also want to thank the people who work at the Thrifty Shoppes and people in the community who donate their goods to be sold in the stores. It truly is a grand pass-through of resources, and we are a beneficiary of this great recycling of goods. In addition to the Vail Valley Cares grant, the dinner program has received support from many outside groups who have hosted the dinners at the church over the past year or will be doing so in the near future ” St. Patrick’s Parish, Avon Police Department, Sonnenalp Resort, Mount of the Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Calvary Chapel, Vail Cascade Resort, Mountain Valley Developmental Services and the OB nurses from Vail Valley Medical Center. Additionally, the Vail Police Department has donated food and City Market grocery cards. This program is the only one of its kind in the valley ” the only place that offers a weekly hot meal to anyone. What started as a small effort by a few people has thrived because of support received from the wider community. Thanks to everyone who continues to support the dinner program by volunteering, donating food, providing financial support or most importantly, joining us for dinner.
