Winners happy to have lost

Beautiful women in long gowns and handsome men in tuxedos beamed proudly as they crossed the stage Saturday at the World Arena in Colorado Springs. Tiaras, crowns, sashes and plaques were given to the winners, who were actually all losers.

Colorado proudly hosted the annual three day International Recognition Days of Take Off Pounds Sensibly, commonly known as TOPS. Approximately 4,000 members attended from all over the United States and Canada.

Brenda Bentson, TOPS area captain for Eagle County, said, “The inspirational stories of these members that have succeeded in losing weight puts a lump in my throat and brings tears to my eyes. Many have had difficult challenges of some kind in their lives but they are willing to let others know that weight loss is possible with determination and perserverence. TOPS is a nonprofit weight loss support group founded in 1948 with 240,000 current members.
