The Eagle-Vail Property Owners Annual Picnic is Saturday, when the homeowners of Eagle-Vail have a chance to get together with their neighbors for free food and beverages at the fun-filled annual picnic. So pack up the kids, and the blanket or lawn chair, and head over to the pavilion grounds from 1-4 p.m.

Registration for Battle Mountain High School students starts this week as the dedicated staff opens their arms and hearts to welcome back all those wonderful young folks so enthusiastic about the prospect of learning.
Juniors and seniors are today, freshmen and sophomores are tomorrow – when all the good classes are already filled.
Vail Jazz Festival
The Vail Jazz Foundation needs volunteers for the 8th annual Vail Jazz Festival. Volunteers are needed to assist with production of concerts and performances, and to assist with the organizational details prior to and during the festival.

Water skiers score
at western regionals
Slalom water skier Heather Young of Wildridge grabbed the gold medal for the Womens 2 division at the Western Regional Water Ski Championships in Newberry Springs, Calif.
Heather also set a new Western region slalom record in the process. Stacy Palmer of Eagle-Vail also skied well in the same division and placed 6th.
Mike Young skied well in the highly competitive Mens 3 slalom event (pressured by wife, Heather, to do well) and captured 9th place in a field of more than 100 of the best male slalom skiers in the West.
Three event skier Bill Wilto captured 2nd place in overall (combination slalom, tricks and jumping) in the Mens 5 division with a 2nd in jumping, 4th in tricks and 18th in slalom.
The Western Regional Water Ski Championships are open to skiers who have met qualification standards and live in 14 western states, including the powerhouse states of Arizona, California and Washington. The event played host to more than 600 participants.
Youth tackle football signup
Sign up now for the youth tackle football program for both boys and girls in grades 3-6. The program stresses fundamentals and rules of the sport, as well as good sportsmanship and fun. Staff will teach offensive and defensive skills, strategies and rules.

triathlon and duathlon
The Avon Recreation Department is running the seventh annual Avon High Country Triathlon/Duathlon Sunday, Sept. 8. It starts at 7:30 a.m.
The triathlon is part of the High Triathlon Series with Avon and Aspen.
Athletes may register by mail until Aug. 30 or in person at the Avon Recreation Center, 325 Benchmark Road, through Friday, Sept. 6. Get registration forms from the Town of Avon at 748-4060, or register on line at Active.com.
