Rocky's good-byes

After a day of Navajo tacos and lemonade, there’s nothing like a good run.

The Western Eagle Valley Rotary Club and several other sponsors will host the 16th annual Run for the Future on Sunday, June 29. The 10K and 5K runs raise money for youth activities and scholarships in Eagle County.

This year’s 5K run and walk start at 7:30 a.m. The 10K run starts at 8:15 a.m., with a 1K fun run beginning at 9:15 a.m.

The 5K and 10K runs and walk start in downtown Eagle and wind through Eagle Ranch, looping back to downtown. There will be some vehicle traffic on the course. The 1K Fun Run is a loop course starting and finishing downtown.

The awards ceremony starts at 9:30 a.m. in front of First American Heritage Title Company on Broadway. The first three places in each category will win awards, and all entrants receive a commemorative T-shirt. Categories are ages 13 and under, 14-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, and 60+. Overall winners will also win awards. Participants in the 1K Fun Run will receive ribbons only.

Advance registration is encouraged, and is $20. Race-day registration is $25 and starts at 6:30 a.m. Runners can register in person at Alpine Bank locations in Eagle and Gypsum, or at race headquarters, Maximum Fitness in Eagle-Vail. Mail-in forms are available at Gart Sports in Avon, Glenwood Springs and Dillon, the Athlete’s Foot in Glenwood and the Avon Recreation Center. Race packets for mail-ins will be available at the race site on race day.
