Art showHilary Haakenseon and Shane Allen will hold an art show and reception at Loaded Joe’s from 6 to 8 tonight. The show will contunue through April.Check it outDown-valley eighth graders and their parents are invited to an “orientation night” at Eagle Valley High School on Tuesday, April 11 at 6:30 p.m. Kids and parents can meet teachers, check out classrooms, and generally get a first, brief taste of what life’s going to be like at the big school in Gypsum. Hura Benefit SundayLongtime local Ed Hura could use the community. Hura, who has bone cancer, is now living in a nursing home in Denver. His friends are holding a benefit for him from 6-9 p.m. on Sunday at the Sandbar. There’s a $5 minimum donation. There will be live entertainment, including Rod Powell, Peter Fontenese and members of Westwood and Wooden Nickel. There will also be deals on beer, a silent auction and snacks. Ed came to Vail in 1972 and first worked at Vail Associates’ rental shop. He later worked as a surveyor, a snowmobile mechanic, a ski patroller and on the Snowcat crew. He was diagnosed with bone cancer in November.Looking for starsThe Vail Performing Arts Academy will present Vail Valley Starquest 2006, a regional talent competition for students ages 8 to 18 on May 6 and 7 at Battle Mountain High School and the Vilar Center.

Singers, dancers, actors, musicians, comedians and speciality acts are all encouraged to enter. Acts will be categorized as large group, small group, trio, duo and solo in three age divisions.
