Town Talk

To my little princess, congratulations and a happy Homecoming 2003!

Love always, Dad.|Special to the Daily|

Howdy and welcome to Town Talk, the column that asserts that if a motorist cuts you off, just turn the other cheek. Nothing gets the message across like a good mooning.

Movin’ straight into it.

A kick in the grass

This coming weekend, hundreds of young soccer players and their parents will flood the area for the third annual Vail Valley Challenge Cup soccer tournament. The tournament will feature 126 soccer teams, ages 10 through 14, from around the state. Play will take place on 16 fields across Eagle County, from East Vail to Eagle. Tournament headquarters will be located at the new Miller Ranch fields in Edwards. In years past, the tournament has drawn nearly 3,500 players, families and spectators to the valley. The Vail Valley Chamber and Tourism Bureau has already booked 875 rooms for the weekend in conjunction with the Challenge Cup.

Extreme makeover

Area businesses are coming together to offer an extreme makeover to one winner. Most are familiar with the hot new show “Extreme Makeover,” where selected people receive a complete overhaul in the looks department – for free. Curves for Women will offer 1 month of intense body shaping and fitness advice; Mountain Clothing will provide an outfit, Hair West will do hair, nails and make-up; Vail Valley Medical Center for Aesthetic Dentistry will offer a “smile overhaul;” and Alpine Laser Clinic will offer Botox. Alpine Laser Clinic owner Debby Beard spearheaded the idea.
