Calling all Veterans



Some local schools will be holding Veterans Day assemblies in your honor. They really need veterans to participate. Call Debbie Robbins at 926-4470 and tell her two things. First, that she’s wonderful; and second, which assemblies you’ll be attending. The schools are hosting receptions for veterans after the assemblies, and they need some numbers.

Homebuyers class

A first-time homebuyer class will be offered free to the public on Thursday, Nov. 13 at the Avon Town Hall Council Chambers in Avon from 5:30-9:30 p.m. The class is provided through the efforts of the Eagle County Housing Department. First-time buyers will learn more about budgeting, credit repair, types of loans, the loan and approval process, real estate contracts, inspections, how to select a home and the final steps of getting ready to move. Financial assistance programs will also be addressed including the Eagle County Mortgage Credit Certificate Program.

Key Financial Incorporated and Beverly Trout of Vail-Lionshead Real Estate Brokers are sponsoring the event. All interested parties must pre-register for the First-Time Homebuyer class by calling the Eagle County Housing Department at (970) 328-8770.

Moe and Moe

WWII veteran, Andy Moe, who always carries the American flag in the Fourth of July Parade from Golden Peak to LionsHead or visa versa, in spite of years bouts with cancer, has been transferred from the Vail Valley Medical Center to the Life Care Center of Evergreen, 2987 Evergreen Parkway, Evergreen, CO 80439. Baroque to the Beatles

Eagle Valley Christian Academy is running a music and lecture series: “A Survey of Western Music, series I: From Baroque to The Beatles,” and they want you there. It’s a weekly concert and lecture series that will be held on Tuesdays from 2:30-3 p.m. in the chapel at Eagle Valley Christian Academy, 39209 Hwy 6 in Eagle-Vail, where Vail Bible Church is located. The coordinator of this series is Britt Herrington, a gifted multi-instrumentalist who studied violin at the University of North Texas and received his Bachelors of Music in Piano Performance from Dallas Baptist University.

Invest a half hour and improve yourself.

Hairy Pawter pooches

The inaugural Hairy Pawter Quidditch Classic will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 1 at Dogwart’s School (a.k.a. Foxfield Agility Center.) All dogs are welcome. Costumes are encouraged for both dogs and handlers. Entry fee is $10, $5 of which will benefit the Eagle County Animal Shelter. Spectators are welcome for a $5 donation to the Animal Shelter.

Congressman Scott McInnis is looking for a few good persons from the Third Congressional District who meet the standards. Requests for the application must be made no later than Wednesday, Oct. 8. Completed applications must be submitted (postmarked) to Ms. Smith by Wednesday, Oct. 15.
