Drs. Anna and Scott Merritt received their Ph.Ds on Aug. 18 from Penn State University; she received hers in Chemical Engineering and he received his in Electrical Engineering.  They will soon begin working in research and development at the Naval Air Warfare Center in China Lake, Calif. They are both 2002 graduates of Colorado School of Mines. Anna graduated from Highlands Ranch High School. Scott was a 1998 graduate of Battle Mountain High School where he was an uninspired, mediocre and sometimes disruptive student. They are the son and daughter-in-law of Ida Merritt and Fiorenzo Bettoni, of Silverthorne.

Please join the Battle Mountain High School PTA on Wednesday at 6 p.m. for Your Teen Behind the Wheel. The Eagle County Safe Youth Driving Subcommittee will be speaking about the importance of family involvement with the teen driving experience. The presentation will include an introduction to the Colorado Graduated Driver’s License law, what families can do to keep teen drivers safe and guest speakers sharing their personal experiences. Calling all ghosts and goblins. The fourth annual Beaver Creek Halloweenfest is Oct. 27 from 5 to 8 p.m. This free event brings trick-or-treating to the Beaver Creek Plaza. To make the plaza come alive, event organizers are seeking colorful characters to give out treats at more than a dozen scare stations.
