Town Talk for April 10
Red Canyon High School and the New America School would like to thank the Eagle Ranch Fitness Center for the use of their space and equipment and for embracing the concept of our Body and Mind class with such a welcoming force! Many of the volunteer instructors are on the ERFC staff, and manager Ellen Fillamore was instrumental in working through the legalities in order for the students to be able to use the space.
Co-teachers Nicole Chartier and Kate Kirkman came up with the concept for a Friday Fun Fitness class, realizing many high school-aged students have never been exposed to some of the wonderful fitness opportunities in our community and/or enjoyed the critical thinking that is born out of playing board games. The students will learn to exercise their bodies and minds each Friday. They will explore the art of yoga, kickboxing, spinning, strength and core training, Zumba, pilates, P90X and more. As for their minds, they will learn how to think logically and critically by playing games such as chess, Scrabble, Battleship, Monopoly, Clue, card games, dominoes and more. The final assignment for the course will be to create a board game that includes aspects of the body and mind that were learned throughout the course. The fitness instructors who volunteered their time for the schools are Mikki Blanchard, Lisa Woods, Mariella Moyer, Jennifer Ludwig and Lora Silagy. Thank you!

Are we seeing more bears because there are more bears on the valley floor, or because we’re all spending more time at home? It could be a bit of both.
