Town Talk for April 21

Vail CO Colorado
Vail Christian High School is very proud of senior Athena Bowe. Athena has received an acceptance to Harvard. Of the 35,000 applicants this year, only 2159 were accepted. This is a record low acceptance at the school, reflecting a trend of increasing selectivity by top-tier universities. Of the 35,000 applicants, it is said that 3,000 received perfect scores on their SATs. Way to go Athena!

At the recent Taste of Vail, two contest entries by Atwater on Gore Creek took home prizes for both a lamb dish and a custom cocktail. After the lamb trio miso BBQ won the People’s Choice Award at the Colorado Lamb Cook Off, the chefs of Atwater decided to add a few more new dishes to the daily menu, pairing each offering with seasonal items. New additions to the menu include the award-winning lamb trio miso leg of lamb, the succulent lamb chop plate and a lamb sausage with spring pea puree and ginger carrots, along with other menu offerings such as fish, fowl and vegetarian options.

Later that evening, more than 200 Taste of Vail enthusiasts attended the next contest, “Get Your Frost Off,” a custom cocktail competition, from which mixologist Robert Zamenic, of Atwater’s Fireside Bar at Vail Cascade, walked away with a winning designation. Zamenic’s second-runner-up libation, the Red Mango Sensation, included rum, Grand Marnier, Hennessey, mango puree with fresh mint and soda water.
