Town Talk for Aug. 14

Vail, CO Colorado
KidSport wants to congratulate the Vail Recreation District and, in particular, Beth Pappas, Joel Rabinowitz and Steve Croucher, for their tremendous effort in helping us stage the inagural KidSport Strider Cup Race. The free event, a pedalless bike race, was held Aug. 11 at Vail's International Bridge for children ages 2 to 5. The race preceeded the following day's very successful third-annual Kids Adventure Race, a competition for kids ages 6 to 12. The contestants all competed, following the course through the town of Vail, on Vail Mountain and through Gore Creek. Another big congratulations goes out to the VRD, as well as to the race-course director, Billy Mattison, and his wife, Helen, and to all of the volunteers, contestants and spectators who helped to make this third-annual race a wonderful event. Congrats and thank you all from the entire staff at KidSport!

Volunteers needed for GranFondo Vail on Sunday. Gran Fondos are long-distance, mass-participation cycling events – not races – that are immensely popular in Italy. Participation is open to recreational and competitive amateur cyclists, and tens of thousands of riders of all abilities participate. Join us at the inaugural GranFondo Vail event Sunday!

Become a volunteer and be close to the action during the inaugural GranFondo Cannondale Vail! Individuals and groups are invited to bring the cultural phenomenon to life – support our riders on course, at the “Piazza GranFondo” expo and festival area, help stuff goodie bags and more. There’s a job to suit all interests! Each volunteer will receive a custom event T-shirt and refreshments and will be entered to win a Cannondale prize pack! And we guarantee you’ll have fun along the way!

If you have a group, please email for even more exciting schwag bags! Volunteer questions? Please contact info@granfondovail.com. Sign up today by emailing info@granfrondovail.com or online at http://www.granfondo-world.com/en/

I lost a pair of Smith Parallels in Vail on Thursday, somewhere between the Gerald R. Ford Amphitheater, The George and the Vail Village parking structure. They are brown with brown lenses, and they don’t make them anymore, so I’d really like them back.
