Join Jeff Lowenfels, one of the most humorous and entertaining garden lecturers, to learn about the science behind organic foods and how to put those ideas into practice in your own garden. Lowenfels will kick off the Vail Symposium’s Summer 2012 season today at 5:30 p.m. with a lecture that will include discussion about soil, composting and organic gardening. Then, on Saturday, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Lowenfels will lead a hands-on workshop that will guide participants through the process of preparing soil and beds and planting your own organic garden. Lowenfels’ book “Teaming with Microbes: The Organic Gardener’s Guide to the Soil Food Web” will be available for purchase and signing. Both the lecture and the workshop will be held on the Colorado Mountain College campus in Edwards. Tickets are $15 for the lecture, $30 for the workshop or $40 for both.
