Colette “Coco” Fritzlen of Vail was awarded the Gibson Memorial Medal at Fryeburg Academy’s commencement ceremony last Sunday. The medal is the school’s highest honor awarded to the senior student who is most outstanding in citizenship, character and scholarship. A student at the Academy since September 2008, Coco graduated with high honors. Coco is the daughter of Lynn Fritzlen and William Pierce, both of Vail. She will attend Manhattan College in Bronx, N.Y., this fall where she will major in engineering.

Samuel DeChant, of Avon, was awarded a bachelor of arts degree Friday from Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pa. A total of 1,777 Lehigh students were awarded bachelor’s, master’s or doctoral degrees during the school’s 143rd commencement ceremonies at Goodman Stadium. Ellen Kullman, the DuPont chair and chief executive officer, who was named one of the most powerful women in the country by both Forbes and Fortune magazines, delivered the commencement address.
