Valentine’s Day Fleece Hats of Friendship compassion outreach project benefits local kids. Tsu Wolin-Brown, of the Salvation Army, accepted 120 Fleece Hats of Friendship for community children ages 3 to 5. These hats were individually handcrafted as a gesture of friendship from Eagle County school students from Stone Creek Charter School, third grade; Gypsum Creek Middle School, eighth grade; Brush Creek Elementary, fourth grade; and Vail Christian High School freshmen and sophomore classes. This project was designed and facilitated by Where the Heart Is Life Skills Enrichment Activities and Patterns of Joy Sewing.

Axel Peter Spaeh is a recipient of the Dean’s Award for academic excellence during the 2011 fall term at Colgate University, where Spaeh is a member of the Class of 2012. To be eligible for the Dean’s Award, a Colgate student must achieve a 3.30 or higher grade-point average while enrolled in four courses. Spaeh, a graduate of Vail Mountain School, is concentrating in political science at Colgate. Spaeh lives in Vail and is the son of Hannes and Saundra Spaeh. Congratulations, Axel!
