Town Talk Tidbits: Cool Stuff, Sweet Deals
This is a great weekend in Colorado, friends. For the first time since before the dark days of the national prohibition on liquor in the 1920s and 30s, thirsty residents and visitors will be able to buy honest-to-Jack-Daniels liquor on Sundays. The old law for decades confused visitors and frustrated those too scattered to plan ahead 24 hours. Cmon, longtime residents how many of you have fired up the grill on an early Sunday evening, then barked: Rats! I didnt buy my favorite spiritous beverage yesterday for tonights summer feast! And I hate lemonade! The law allowing Sunday sales didnt come easy. The states liquor store trade group had actually fought similar laws for many years, the better to give mom-and-pop shops one day off every week. The political gyrations that gave us this years law are too complex to describe here, but suffice it to say were happier than birds drinking fermented corn juice during harvest about the ability to buy a responsible amount of giggle juice seven days a week.To help you celebrate, dear readers, were encouraging you to visit your local liquor store, wherever that might be in the valley, and say hello to a friendly clerk on a Sunday for the first time in 80-some years. And you might want to buy a little something, too.To help you in your pursuit of friendliness, herewith is a list of all the valleys liquor stores and their brand-new Sunday hours. Bottoms up!
