The Eagle County Historical Society is seeking help in solving a post-World War II mystery. In June 1949 the Merci Train car arrived in Eagle County. The antique boxcar full of gifts was a thank-you gesture from the people of France in gratitude for relief goods received from the United States during the liberation of France. Eagle County was presented with an oil painting by French artist Madeline Gervaisot. The painting was to be displayed at various schools around the county.
